If you have a TLC license, you should be aware of the revamped renewal courses. TLC classes in New York City will now need to teach the updated curriculum set by the TLC.
What Are TLC renewal classes?
The TLC requires continued education throughout your driving career. Every time your license is going to expire, you will need to take a TLC renewal class from an approved TLC class in New York City within 90 days of its expiration; TLC licenses expire every three years. These classes ensure you are up to speed on new regulations and the best customer service practices.
What’s Different About the New Renewal Courses?
The revamped renewal courses were launched in April of 2024 and aim to improve customer service and traffic safety. One of the main improvements is the inclusion of videos that focus on real-world scenarios that educate drivers in areas, such as bias, racism, and discrimination.
According to the TLC, they took feedback from TLC 24-hour classes in New York City and added engaging content using AI actors and scenario-based education. The TLC aims to improve customer service by teaching drivers how to use inclusive language and respect the gender pronouns of their customers.
The TLC also focused on expanding wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) training by focusing on how to assist visual- and hearing-impaired customers.
All students will also receive a TLC resource guide to use after training so they can easily reference everything they’ve learned.
