Efforts to recycle inkjet cartridges by large print companies are in fact an excellent thing to do for the environment. By removing depleted cartridges from consumers, the amount of plastics removed on landfills is reduced by manufacturers. There are a lot of good reasons to recycle the cartridges, and help the environment.
Harmful Chemicals
One reason it is important to recycle the cartridges is because of the chemicals that are used in making and filling them. A printer cartridge contains specially manufactured ink for each specific printer model. When the printer runs out of ink, you can take the empty cartridge to the charging stations and fill it up with a new supply of ink, or you can just replace it with a new cartridge. The ink in the cartridge contains toxic chemicals, such as petroleum and therefore harmful to the environment. Recycling helps reduce the amount of harmful chemicals used.
Support Recycling
A large number of ink cartridges and ink cartridges are disposed of annually in the United States. Both the ink and the cartridge housing are extremely environmentally hazardous. The housing is made of non-biodegradable materials such as polymeric plastic while the ink contains hazardous products, such as petroleum and dyes. To save our environment from more damage we need to support recycling efforts by returning the cartridge or purchasing reusable ink cartridges. Recycling reusable ink cartridges and returning them to recyclers once they are exhausted is an easy way to make a big difference in your carbon footprint.
Green Companies
There are actually several manufacturers of these printing supplies that have recycling programs. Some of them are Epson, HP and Kyocera. Each manufacturer has its own different versions of recycling programs, but each is designed to mitigate landfill waste and promote a healthier atmosphere. For every inkjet cartridge that is recycled, that is a few less ounces of petrochemicals being left to leech in our dumps. Recycling makes a huge difference and is something everyone should try to do when they can.
